Continuing Internal Medicine Residents' Academic Webinar
Kathmandu, 3 Oct 2026 |The Society of Internal Medicine of Nepal (SIMON) successfully conducted second edition of
engaging session of its Internal Medicine Residents' Academic Webinar on today evening, bringing together residents,
faculty, and senior physicians from across Nepal and beyond. The virtual academic forum continued SIMON’s initiative
of creating an interactive, case-based platform for postgraduate medical education and clinical reasoning.
The session featured a detailed long-case presentation on "a non-healing wound in the
right foot of a disbetic patien", presented by Dr. Rashmi Dahal and Dr. Sarbagya Manandhar currently in the final
year of MD Internal Medicine training in the Nepal Medical College, Jorpati, Kathmandu.
The session was jointly moderated by Dr. Smriti Shakya (EC member, SIMON) and Dr. Vijay Yadav (Treasurer), who facilitated the discussion and encouraged active participation throughout the case. The academic discussion was chaired by Prof. Dr. Mahesh Raj Sigdel, Head of Department of Internal Medicine, Maharajgunj Medical Campus & Past President, SIMON, Prof. Dr. Buddhi Prasad Paudyal, Senior Professor of Medicine, Former Vice Chancellor, Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS), Lalitpur, and Prof. Dr. Partha Sarkar, Professor of Medicine, K P C Medical College, Kolkata, India, bringing valuable perspectives and enriching the academic dialogue. Prof. Dr. Prabin Adhikari, Professor of Medicine from Nepal Medical College served as faculty for the session. Prof. Dr. Nandini Chatterjee from SSKM Hospital, Kolkata also actively guided the presenters.
A key strength of the program was its emphasis on approaching a clinical problem from multiple perspectives rather than simply arriving at a diagnosis. The lively exchange of ideas between the resident presenters, moderators, faculty, national and international chairpersons, and participating residents transformed the webinar into an interactive academic discussion. The involvement of both national and international experts further enriched the session.
The program commenced with a welcome note by the General Secretary of SIMON, Prof. Dr. Krishna Kumar Agrawal, who highlighted the importance of continued academic engagement and collaborative learning among postgraduate trainees. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by the President of SIMON, Dr. Mukunda Prasad Kafle, acknowledging the contributions of the presenters, faculty, chairpersons, moderators, and participants in making the program successful.
This session further strengthens SIMON’s vision of establishing a regular, interactive, and case-based academic platform for MD residents. By encouraging structured clinical reasoning, active discussion and collaboration among institutions and across national boundaries, the initiative represents an important step toward strengthening postgraduate medical education and fostering a culture of continuous learning within Nepal’s internal medicine community.
