SIMON’s Inaugural MD Residents Webinar: A New Era of Interactive Clinical Learning
On September 5, 2026, the Society of Internal Medicine of Nepal (SIMON) successfully hosted its inaugural MD Residents Academic Webinar. The engaging virtual forum brought together nearly 125 participants from across the country. The program featured an innovative, interactive, and case-based format, with residents from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) presenting a clinical case in a progressive, stepwise manner.
Dr. Vijay Yadav moderated the session, while Dr. Bishal Shah and Dr. Subash Karki served as presenters. The academic discussion was chaired by Prof. Dr. Pradeep Krishna Shrestha and Prof. Dr. Robin Maskey, with Prof. Dr. Chandra Mani Poudel serving as a faculty. A major strength of the program was its emphasis on active clinical reasoning over passive learning.
At each stage of the case, participants were encouraged to formulate and refine differential diagnoses, debate the arguments for and against various possibilities, interpret clinical findings, and arrive at a final diagnosis through a structured approach. The lively interaction among residents, faculty, chairpersons, and the moderator transformed the webinar into a dynamic discussion with enthusiastic participation throughout.
The strong attendance and active engagement demonstrated a growing interest in collaborative postgraduate medical education, highlighting the potential of virtual platforms to connect learners and experienced clinicians across institutions.
Ultimately, this successful inaugural event marks a significant initiative by SIMON to create a regular, interactive, and case-based academic platform that fosters clinical reasoning, discussion, and collaborative learning within Nepal's internal medicine community.
